DAP PEN OVERVIEW
Pros and cons of wax pens
Why not use a vape pen instead? Most of the time, the oil in a vape cartridge is a concentrate that has been diluted with other substances, making it less potent and flavorful.
People use dab pens if they want the flavor and strength of a concentrate but don’t want to deal with the process of dabbing or if they want a way to dab that is more portable and private.
Dab pens don’t need a torch, nail, or water like a dab rig does. Instead, they have an oven or bowl that heats the concentrates. Just put some concentrate in the tank, tighten the mouthpiece, and start puffing. Depending on the type of dab pen and the concentrate, you might still need a dab tool to get the concentrate into the oven.
You can also choose the type, texture, and quality of your concentrate when you use a pen. You can also choose the amount you want to dab and set the exact temperature.
One possible problem with pens is that dabbing is all about flavor, and even though pens have temperature settings that can be changed, some dabbers think that a dab rig is better for getting the temperature just right.
How dab pens are made
There are different sizes of dab pens, but most of them look like thick vape pens. They look like vape pens and have a mouthpiece, but there is no cartridge with oil in it. Instead, concentrate is put right into the pen.
Like a vape pen, the mouthpiece usually unscrews to reveal the oven or bowl. When you inhale, you have to press a button to turn it on and change the temperature.
Most pens use conduction heating. This means that a small oven inside the dab pen heats up, and concentrate is put right on top of it. Vape pens, on the other hand, usually use convection heating, in which a coil heats air, which then vaporizes cannabis oil without any direct contact.
The Puffco Plus is a dab pen with a bowl that works well.
In some older pens, the concentrate is put right on the coils that heat up. This can burn the concentrate, ruining the terpenes and flavor, and make it taste burnt.
Concentrates won’t burn if they are heated evenly in ovens, which are often made of ceramic. They also make the dab pen easier to clean and make the hits more consistent.
To get dabs into the oven of the pen, you’ll need to be careful, and make sure to only get it in the oven and not on the rim. If you put dabs in the fridge, let them warm up for a few minutes before loading.
Once the pen is full of concentrate, all you have to do is press the button and take a drag.
Every dab pen is different, so make sure to read the manual to find out how to change the settings and anything else you need to know.
Cleaning a dab pen
Most dab pens are easy to clean, and you can use a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the inside of an oven. You might be able to soak the mouthpiece in a jar of alcohol, but check the instructions to see if you can and for other cleaning tips.
Some people clean their pen after each bowl of concentrate has been completely vaporized, but at the very least, it should be cleaned at the end of each session. When you clean the oven, it should be warm, but not too hot.
Sticky dabs mean that you need to clean your dab pen often to make sure it works well and lasts a long time.
How to fix issues with dab pens
Be sure that your pen is always fully charged. Most of the time, a dab pen won’t work because the battery is dead.
If you can turn on the pen but can’t draw with it, it might be clogged. To get a clean pull, you may need to clean the mouthpiece or the oven.
Each model of pen is different, so you should always check the manual to see if the company has any other tips or tricks for fixing specific problems.
